Independence day

While the storm clouds gather
it was a little overcast at Chinaman's hat
far across the sea,
well, we crossed the bay to get back to this spot
Let us swear allegiance
to walk on as long as we can.
 to a land that's free,
free swings----heck yes
Let us all be grateful
and hold on tight
for a land so fair,
does it get more beautiful than moments like this?
As we raise our voices
you can't tell, but we're singing billy joel right now
in a solemn prayer.
praying that I won't fall off the swing
and that the picture won't come out weird looking.
God bless America
bless you that we can forever have moments like a child
on a swing
Land that I love
even more than I love tireswings
stand beside her and guide her
or just lean.

through the night with a light from above
like....the....branch holding the swing
from the mountains
surrounded by mountains on Schofield Barracks
to the prairie
it could just be a field
through the oceans
polish sausages are definitely shipped through the ocean
white with foam.
the foamy stuff that is left after a slush puppy
God bless America
water falling from the sky as we send fire up, a nice juxtaposition
my home sweet home.

a different home, but home all the same.

 Happy Birthday America!
No BeachBoys, no personal fireworks, no jell-o flag cake!, no sparklers, no bbq sauce, no mom's 4th soundtrack (namely mo-tabs), no piccolo petes, no itchy grass, no barbeque
still swam, still sang, still saw fireworks, still had polish sausage, still heard Stars and Stripes Forever, still had potato salad
hiked, swings on the beach, philly cheese steaks, free food tickets given to us by a stranger, live Army Band on Schofield Barracks, rain during fireworks

life is good.

  1. Not much missed on the jello-cake. Mom decided to take a low-sugar cake recipe and take out even MORE sugar. No sugar = Tastes like there isn't any sugar. Not the best Jello-cake.
    Glad you had fun too!

    1. Those are things that I usually have on the 4th of July. If I was home with you guys, all these things would have been present in my Independence Day celebration; but since I'm here, it wasn't.

  3. For the record, the low-fat, low-sugar jello poke flag cake was a joint decision Nan and I came up with for Jeff and the 'Betes'. And . . . we didn't have polish sausages this year. Alayna had just come from work, but she changed out of her lifeguard uniform--so no one in a lifeguard uniform setting off fireworks this year.
