We left the last post after the newly sealed couple walked out of the temple. Off they went to take pictures with their photographer, Carlos Mozo.

With all the leis hanging on my arm, still wearing a bright yellow dress, I headed off to catch the end of graduation.
I was walking through the McKay hallway and I saw a familiar man with his 10 year old twin boys. "Brother Jarman???" Yup. Brother Jarman was the go-to seminary substitute and was in the Stake Young Men's presidency. His son and daughter (and her husband) and wife were all at the temple, in the mean time he was playing with his sons. "I didn't know you were here?" said brother Jarman. Yup. I am. Talked for a few minutes then continued off to Graduation.
I got there in time to see Elder Holland (the speaker) start the crowd out of the CAC. No pictures. I'm sorry. Any pictures I have are ones I've stolen from facebook. I was running amuck. I made a bunch of ribbon leis and found some of their recipients easily, others not so much. I called people and ran them down. Literally. In the end, all my people got their leis.
i'm so excited! |
Once I got my blender...and took this picture...I moved it to my new home! I live just behind the other side of my current neighbors. I made about a dozen trips but I got all of my stuff moved from one house to the other all by myself...barefoot. Abby and I said goodbye and thank you to our home teachers by bringing them a Ted's Bakery Pie which they invited us to eat with them. They live across the street. Great guys.
I printed my boarding pass on my printer. I got my deposit back from Momma Tovey. I had about 30 minutes to spare before I needed to be at Sister Johnson's house to do last minute set up- so I went to the beach and stuck my feet in the waves. I needed to cool off, it was hot. (in December. I know some of you want to kill me right now, it happens. I still love you.) I came home and took a shower and re-got-ready for the reception.

Sara and Jackie (my new roommate and my new house manager respectively) drove Abby and I to The Point. They were bridesmaids. Aren't they cute????
Then, well, the fun began. I hung all the Chinese lanterns. The colors were Yellow and Gray, the lanterns were all types of yellow, some orange and a few pink. The lights that we'd strung on the tree had some lag so we could fill some of the lanterns with light. The reception was at 4pm, so it's not like we needed the light to see, but it was cute. We all brought out the food to the deck. The day was perfect. Every now and then we got a bit of ocean spray because we were on an outdoor deck and the tide was fairly high.
My friend Ho'olu has a little Hawaiian band and they played for most of it. The cake was cut. Melinda asked me to announce a 'Lei toss'. Like a bouquet toss- only she didn't have a bouquet. She did, however, have fresh flower leis. Thankyouverymuch. :)
The food was wonderful! Our Bishop made it. It was a small ordeal, very fun.
The couple did their first dance-

the thing the cake is on...I found that in the house, we were going to use a stool and cover it with the taupa cloth...until I saw that in the living room. it looks good here. :) |

Perks of a reception on The Point. |
Unbeknownst to the guest until this moment, we were not just celebrating a wedding of two dear friends. It was also Aaron's parents' anniversary. Awe! But wait--- it is also Aaron's Grandparents' anniversary. Awe! Annnnnnd- all of these 12/17 married people were there.
That's cute.
My twin, Lauren, was there. I get mistaken for her all the time. I have a picture with her on my phone...but I can't get it from there. Sorry.
The tahitian dancers came. The bridesmaids and groomsmen mingled. Steven the Hawaiian (I don't know how else to describe him) provided some more music while the couple went and changed.

In order: Carlos Mozo (w/ the camera), Jay the fire-knife dancer (coming up), beautiful couple, Steven the singing Hawaiian. |
They changed, we lined the walkway. They came out, we followed them. Two fire-knife dancers (Jay and someone else) were going in the street for them. Interesting story- Jay knows the kid who is the world champion fire-knife dancer in his age group. He is from La'ie. The kid was supposed to come and do it, but he was late. Jackie (bridesmaid and new house manager and Jay's girlfriend) implored him to make it work, so Jay put on a lavalava and did the dancing himself. It was great! Jay did not want to do it. He hasn't done it in 2 years, he wasn't comfortable, but he did it for them. Watching, you wouldn't have guessed that Jay was out of practice.
The couple went around and said goodbye to everyone, thanked them for coming. I can't describe Melinda's face when she got to me. She turned my way and almost ran. She was fervently happy. I feel that God wants us to be happy. When we are doing the right things He wants us to have that perfect day, to be able to look back and be filled with joy. Brother Pike said that I did the work that her close friends wouldn't do; I suppose that is true, otherwise there would have been help and I would have had pictures. It may be that Melinda and Aaron are where God wants them to be, so He made sure that the day abounded in joy. I would not have done this if I didn't feel like I needed to, alone I would not have even considered it. But "with God, all things are possible".
Kelly...
I just realized I don't have a picture of wedding Kelly. She is amazing. This is Kelly.
Anyway, she thinks I can do the work of 10 people- which depends on the people you choose. She also says that I have a future in event planning and that Sister Johnson should have the next people who want to do something at her house hire me. I don't know about 'planning' but I'm a good 'event-carrier-out-er'. As fun as that sounds...I'm going to study speech pathology.
The Pikes, Aaron's parents, are really gracious people. Wonderful family. They stepped up to help with whatever they could. They were the only family there and everyone was so grateful to have them.
The Call grandparents were cute old people. Stayed in Waikiki which is a shame because it is nowhere near as beautiful as the North Shore.
Well, take down was simple. We were careful with the Chinese lanterns, none of them were overly damaged. The lights came down. I got my extension chords back. I got my knives back. Melinda txted me...what? I know, that was my thought too. She wanted me to make sure we didn't toss the food. Of course not silly, we were already putting the leftover drinks in the car to take to their house. The fruit was in bags ready to freeze as was the chicken. We did, however, split up the rice and the lettuce because those will go bad before you get back in January. This woman is the queen of maximizing returns.
Everything was down. Everyone was chatting. But I needed to go. Goodbyes were short and sweet. Jackie and Sara and Abby and I went home. Dropped Abby off at our old house. I ran into
I didn't need to check luggage. I got on a plane. My seat was in the back of the plane, the window seat, next to Violet- an old Japanese-Hawaiian lady. She was there with friends who had an extra seat in the middle, so before we took off she said "I'm going to go sit with my friends. You can have more room. Have a nice flight." That was one of the only empty seats on the plane. So I got to lay down and sleep. I was so tired. I had been running for days. It was a blessing 1) to be able to sleep on the plane and 2) to have the room to lay down so I could sleep more comfortably.
It's always rainy when I fly home. Why is that??? |
I love flying in when the lights are on.
Wow. I'm tired just writing this post.
