finders keepers

I found a kayak

under my house.

I had never gone kayaking before.
This is going to be fun.

Today we went to Lanikai- we rented two "big" kayaks because this is a 1 person kayak.
Well, there were lots of adventures here.  There is an island with a mountain in the bay at Lanikai and our plan was to kayak the mile to the island, hike a bit and come back.  Well- 11 people, 1 one-person and 2 two person kayaks.   It was quite the misadventure.

I was in a boat with 4 people and we were doing really well until we saw the other boat that should have had 4 people...but only had 3...they boys decided it was worth it to make 2 trips.
And so I hopped off and swam back.  The people on my boat felt bad...but really, who else would've been okay to do that?  Martin can't swim (not well) and I don't think Kylie or Seth would be comfortable going alone.
Bree, Cami and I watched and played in the water for a while, waiting for the boats to come back.  Well, one did eventually.  It was rather water-logged.  Bree and Cami went around in it for a little bit but capsized and decided they were done.  I went around for a while, but then I saw one of the boys booking it back to the beach.  Not that showing off is unusual for this kid....but he was alone.
It was raining.  All of the keys to all of the cars were in Whitney's backpack which was with Whitney and 2 other girls, still on the island.  2 of the boys hopped in a kayak and headed back, towing an empty kayak to bring the girls back in.  By this time, the current was against them as was the wind.
Poor guys, they were beat and we stood on the beach watching them- "I just want to give them a push"
"At what point do we call the coastguard?"---not that anyone could get their phones

Seth: "We should send the dolphin out to get them."
Cami: "Nea-e-e-e-e-e-eh"
Seth: "What was that?"
Cami: "My dolphin call"
Seth: "I was actually talking about Aria"
HA! :D

Here is what happened to Lex, Kylie, and Whit on the island-
It was raining.  They were freezing.  There was a huge kegger going on near them on the beach.  Those people asked them what they were doing, if they wanted to join, etc.  They declined.  "We're waiting for our friends to come back with the kayaks."  "HO NA!  Watcha' gone say?  Dem bras done lef you hea and steal dem boats.  Das mess up bra! When our boat move, you be on it fo shua."**
The boys were about half way there when they saw the girls getting a ride in a little motor boat.  The nice, slightly wasted people, towed them to shallower water on the other side of the bay.  Our group thanked them and kayaked back to us.

We had a great time.  It was quite the misadventure.  We saw a wedding, Cami picked up poop, someone built a professional sandcastle, I swam a fair amount; the rest of the group got a bit cut up on the coral.
The thing is....my camera was in a waterproof case.  Somewhere between the first time the boat capsized and the 6th the latch on the case opened and my camera......well.
Kahanu said to soak it in rubbing alcohol and then put it in rice.  I was going to do distilled water because a lot of times the problem lies in the residue left on the electronic stuff after it's been soaked, but apparently this could work.  It can't hurt.  My camera is sitting in rice right now.  I do have some pictures, I don't know how many were taken pre-capsizing.  It may take a while to get them.....(gotten and added 3/16/12)

**I'm fairly certain I used the proper spelling and grammar for HCE (Hawaii Creole English).  Yeah, I speak some HCE.   nbd  ;)
