Presidents day!

On presidents day we went to Wiamanalo.  It is a freshwater reservoir.....aka slip-n-slide.
It is government property.
It is infested with leptospirosis.
I'm pretty sure we don't really care.
:D

I took over 200 pictures.....I won't post all of them.

I got up early in the morning and went running- that was completely unnecessary. We had breakfast in the Bus Stop House at 7:30.  Matthew made pancakes, I made smoothies.  We were on the road by 8:30.

Cami and Aaron

We hopped the fence.

Bree

The whole time we were hopping the fence, Matthew kept shushing us.  Not that it made any type of difference.  Once we got to the reservoir we were yelling at the top of our lungs.  All the shushing did us a ton of good though, I'm sure.

The other side of the fence- the way up.
Cami

This is the group.
(color enhanced) Hey look! that's my shirt!

We slid down the side and had lots of fun.  These are a few of my favorite pictures.

 This is how it works.

 Wuhooooo!

This is the group.  It rained on our way up, which made sliding so much easier.  If it was really sunny the plastic would have been hot....and that would not have been fun.

Oh- that's me at the bottom, with a bucket full of water
to make it easier to slide down.  I just climbed up
a plastic ladder with 5 gallons of water- no big deal ;)

AND THEN- we decided to do a relay.  We split up into 2 teams.  Lex and Martin were the volunteer designated picture takers.  It was a big deal that Matt and I not be on the same team because we were probably the best swimmers.

Team 1- Whit, Matt, Tay, Seth, Bree                             Team 2- Kylie, Cami, Rommel, Aaron, Aria

Whit and Kylie- a good start.

end of the first leg

We each had to slide down, swim across the reservoir, climb up the other side, and tag the next person.
Seth in the lead, Aaron
making up some time.

It was just a little bit intense.

Aaron and Bree.

We had lost the lead....badly, but Aaron made up for a good chunk.  However,  Bree started to swim just as he was done.  I was the anchor because everyone was convinced I was a good swimmer.

There is no longer a question.  I was the best swimmer.  They were right to separate Matt and me (though I really wanted to swim against Matt, just to see.  He's beefy but I don't think he can cut water like I can....or swim in a strait line).  Bree was half way across when I got in and....well, we won.  Thankyouverymuch.

BUT- Cami gouged her thumb while she was sliding down.  :(  While Rommel and Tay were doing their leg, I ripped the hem of my shirt to cover the cut.  I literally took my first aid kit out of my backpack the night before.  not a good idea aria!  It's a little sad, I really like that shirt, but there was nothing else to stop the bleeding.

Cami and Lex went to LONGS and got the pharmacist to clean it out.  She's doing well.

There were other people at Wiamanalo that day, they saw what we were doing and challenged us to a race- I want to make it clear- I was not consulted on the decision to decline.  Yes, we were tired, but we would have done it after the other group swam across the reservoir the long way.  It would give us time to recoup and we'd have been even.  Totally would have been fun.  Didn't do it.  We probably would have won anyway.

BUT we did slide with them on the corner for a bit.  It looks scarier, but it is actually a slower ride down.  Here are my favorite pictures from that.  I had my camera on 'burst' so I would get step-by-steps.  I have SO MANY of these.

Aaron

....can't tell.  probably Matt, but the splash is cool.

Rommel

the sun started to come out.

Seth- this was the first time he went on the corner.
It's interesting to see how nervous people
were to do this one.  Take Seth- he said himself
"I look like a grandpa!"

Bree- she too was very cautious.  This is an action shot,
believe it or not.  It took a lot of coaxing.

Kylie- also, a lot of coaxing.

Smiles all around

Martin and Whit
This is how we got back up to the top.
Those stairs make your feet HURT.

And just as we decided to wrap it up, a government official came.  Apparently the city police called them.  It was his day off, he wasn't super pleased to be there.  We were rather nervous....but we went to the car and waited for him like he asked.  He talked to us, told us to drive safe and not do this again.  No ticket.  Relief flooded every particle of our soaking wet beings.  Then a city cop car came and we got nervous again, but the government guy talked to him and.....we're good.  "Don't do it again."  <sigh> okay.

the ride home

 We made enchiladas that night.

They were yummy.

And that was our adventure.

disclaimer- we do care about leptospirosis, and we are all watching out for eachother on that account.  the moment someone feels poorly we have a plan.  We aren't worrying about it.
